Our Journey
CoPay was founded with a simple yet powerful vision: to democratize financial services across Africa. Starting in South Africa's townships, we witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by informal traders who were excluded from traditional banking systems.
Our journey began by working closely with spaza shop owners in Soweto, understanding their daily struggles with cash-only transactions and limited access to digital payment systems. Through innovative QR payment technology, we created solutions that were not just accessible, but genuinely transformative.
Today, CoPay operates across 12 African countries, processing over 50 million transactions for more than 2.5 million users. From street vendors in Cape Town to entrepreneurs in Lagos, we're building bridges to financial inclusion and creating opportunities for economic participation across the continent.
